Christine! I just had this exact thought last night while I worshipped at the feet of Jacob collier 😆😆 everyone was singing so loud and it was glorious! I’m going to read this post as soon as I get my kids out the door to grandmas here in a few hours 💗
Man I think that sort of immersive experience of music is too triggering for me now! But this post has me thinking maybe I don’t need to just run away from those experiences; maybe I can sit with what’s going on there.
When I finally became slightly curious about Taylor Swift, like last month, I came across a video where she talks about the 10 minute version of All Too Well, and how they just drifted into free flow with the circulating chords, and I was like “she sounds like a Bethel worship leader talking about the spirit moving.” And then I listened to the song, and it was the SAME CHORDS—the Bethel music chord progression. 😂 Which will never not trigger me.
Music is an INTENSE experience for you!! Also I am not that detailed in my music knowledge but think it's kinda funny about Taylor Swift and Bethel... but hearing it and knowing that would yes, be triggering! Whew!
Yes to mewithoutyou and likewise sad I didnt get to see them during their last tour. I did get to see them perform once when they played at my alma mater. I've recently discovered Noah Kahan too. I love this post- thank you so much for sharing. ❤️
Yay, mutual fans of artists x2!! I saw mwY I think twice in Indy, but that's neat they came to your alma mater! Do you have a favorite(s) Noah song? (feels unfair to ask because I like so many of them...how to decide!)
“Our ocean becoming droplets once more” 💗 loved everything about this, Christine. So happy you had this wonderful experience and I’m sharing your joy as I cried through my own spiritual concert just last night in Detroit. I sang and lifted my hands and danced. My teen joined me and said “are you going to cry the whole time?” You betcha. They’re fine with it though and said “I’m glad you had such a good time mom” 💔❤️🩹
Love this!!! And you're still riding the high from your concert! Hahaha worshipping at the feet of Jacob Collier -- not familiar with him but I'll have to check it out! Saw your IG story with him leading the a capella singing. Love it! I'm glad your teen came with and was so sweet and supportive of your spiritual concert experience 🥰
I’m going to look Noah up and I’ll tell my teen too because she loves lizzy mcalpine! Jacob is definitely the opposite of folksy but I hope you love him! He is so joyful and is basically a musical genius. lol.
Love Noah Kahan! I love going to concerts and feeling this transcendence, though most of the time I just feel old. Wasn't there something in the Bessel VanDerKolk book about choral singing as a treatment for PTSD? I could be botching this
Haha I noticed at the Noah Kahan concert that I felt like one of the oldest people there (at 36) and I'm definitely used to being the youngest in most spaces I go, so that was weird but funny. Gen Z is taking over the concert-going space, I guess....
No, that does ring a bell! I also just read that humming is good for soothing the vagal nerve so choral singing would fit right in there too! YAY fellow Noah fan!
Love this! Live music and the connection of singing with a crowd feels so spiritual to me too. So glad you were able to have such a delightful experience!

I think my husband has been listening to his music, but I haven’t so now I want to look him up.
If you are missing singing in church, I recommend Hymns Reclaimed by former worship leader Alanah Sabatini:

Yes! They bring me to tears every time
Checking this out now! Nice!!

What a delicious taste of total freedom!

Music... it's amazing! One of the things that makes being human feel so special!
I had a similar experience last summer at a concert 😊
