I loved this piece. You’ve captured the systems at play here beautifully. Want to do another podcast episode where we riff on this?

Also I will message you a link to a webinar that he did as part of the Swat Alum series. He talked about some of these themes exactly and how declining social capital has been exploited by Trump & Co.

Let's get a group together to watch and discuss Join or Die, the new documentary about Robert Putnam's work! Like Jubilee people and others? Tom and I have been fans of his since Bowling Alone and since he is a Swarthmore alum and Harvard prof both of our kids' schools have been hyping it!

Thank you Christine for capturing all the things rolling around in my brain about all of this! It’s been so hard for me to articulate all of the things I’m seeing happen in from of my eyes and still being dumbfounded at the reality we now exist in.

Just doing my best to make a few things make sense!! It’s hard to believe this is the world we’re living in…can we wake up from this yet??

I love the way you've put the pieces together here. It feels so important to address each of these issues, though I'm not sure where to get started? More community building activities? More support for unions? You've definitely got me thinking...

I agree! There's so many pieces, where do we start "solving" this puzzle? But I guess it's also like there are so many opportunities to do something that helps!!

I'm a liberal libertarian brother from another substack (https://funday.createaforum.com/improve/sub/msg538/#msg538). Most liberals/progressives seem to listen to too much (fascist) mainstream news. I'm suspicious of Trump and Musk, but the news media has obviously way exaggerated most of Trump's ideas. To me it's absurd to think that Trump is a worse president than previous Republican presidents. The Bush's were war mongers, whereas Trump is not, at least not much. The way I see it, Trump has turned the Republican Party into a much more progressive party than it was under the Neocons. I've never bought into the climate crisis propaganda that the news media has been promoting for the last 20 some years. I know science, and the news media isn't science. Science involves airing all sides on an issue, not excluding all but one. It's the height of absurdity to label CO2 as pollution, when all life absolutely depends on it, and the amount in the atmosphere is lower than almost any time in history. I believe Trump is way better than war-monger Hilary and maybe better than Obama. Again, I am suspicious of Trump. My main gripes against him are his idea of separating illegal immigrants' kids from their families and his Zionism. I'm also very suspicious of his and Musk's and RFK Jr's promotion of cryptocurrency, which seems to be used for money laundering, for drug trafficking and maybe human trafficking. RFK Jr and Tulsi Gabbard (the turncoats?) seem to be the best hope for helping to end major corruption in society. The media (owned by Pharma) like to call RFK Jr an antivaxer, as if that's evil. Before the Covid scam it was common for people to discuss the pros and cons of vaxes, but suddenly it became taboo. And liberals supported censorship of antivaxers, whereas free speech used to be a liberal cause. RFK Jr isn't an antivaxer either. His organization merely seeks to ensure that vaxes are safe and effective. Ironically, liberals who fell for the Covid scam have been injured more by the fake vaxes than have conservatives, but fail to Wake up to reality. I blame the media and the fascist-controlled education system for liberals' (and everyone's) dumbing down.
