Nicki is *so courageous*! (And you too, Christine!) My heart goes out to her. I wonder if “misogyny” is also a word that applies to a church and pastor that subordinates women. We know now what harm it does to any person to be treated as “less than.” Perhaps churches would stop their misogyny if women started suing them for psychological damage. Do you or Nicki see that as a viable option?
Some churches are very outright with their misogyny (I'm thinking Mark Driscoll types and whatnot) while others are very subtle!
I really have not considered that as an option! All I start thinking is about how hard it is to get justice for other victims with more clearcut examples of abuse. :( Maybe a mass exodus of women from these churches would do the trick, but they're often cast under quite a spell of believing their own inferiority...
Yes, maybe women leaving in droves would get attention. What made me think of the legal option is that subjugating women in the workplace is a fast track to a lawsuit for a hostile work environment. Why do churches even get away with this? It would only take one brave woman per church to put some bright light on these false harmful doctrines and get them changed. In my observation, pastors love their money as much as CEOs, and hitting them in their coffers might bring real change!
Thank you so much for having me as a guest! I enjoyed getting to chat with you 💛
It was great to have you on! Thanks for being my guest :)
This felt sooo similar to my church abuse experience. 😭
I, too, have been trying to honor myself by doing things only if I WANT TO do them. It’s so empowering.
Thank you for sharing your story--it made me feel seen and validated.
I'm so glad to know the interview was meaningful for you, Lindsey!

Such an important topic! Thank you for doing this interview.
Thanks, Kandi!
I’m excited/nervous to listen!!!
Hope you liked it! I want to dive in more to these ties with childhood trauma & religious trauma in the future, too!
