"What I fail to understand (by which I mean I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THE FEAR-MONGERING SHE’S PROBABLY INDOCTRINATED WITH AND HATE IT) is why she thinks the gays are surely going to come pounding down her door demanding she design their website." Yes! I once was this afraid and indoctrinated too, and I'm sad for her and angry for what this indoctrination has led to in regards to human rights. Resting in your suggestion of breathing it out and seeking out ways to be trauma friendly and inclusive throughout my own life and activism. Also, have so much fun at EMDRIA!
Kandi, that’s a powerful reminder too, that most of us were once under this indoctrination spell and probably felt some level of what she’s feeling. It’s tragic how people’s fear and anger and prejudice directly cause harm to others in this way... we’ll keep trying to shine light in our little corner of the world though!
A local pastor (who graduated from the same fundy high school as me) has been wearing a “vote yes in august” tshirt while preaching on Sundays. I’ve been researching how to file a complaint with the IRS 🤬😅
While preaching!!! WHOA! Take that tax exempt status away stat!! (We saw a giant Catholic church with giant neon billboard on our way towards Cinci/Louisville advertising vote yes also, and I had the same thought as you!)
Tuned to the political channel (MSNBC) and podcasts much of the time--yes, me too! With all the cruel Republican policies and Scotus decisions lately I wonder if we have become the kind of Country Malala and other courageous freedom fighters will be protesting. It sure feels like we are in our darkest Hour as a nation. In a way it's worse than the extreme cruelty and darkness of the past because we've been on an upward path of growth toward inclusive social justice and becoming a genuinely compassionate nation, and now officially as a nation we've turned our back on it all again. It’s one thing to be in darkness; it’s another thing to see the light and prefer the darkness. I think and I hope the majority wants to keep moving toward the light, but it may take a generation to get our direction back on track. It breaks my heart because I fear I won't be around to see things corrected and progress resume. But maybe I'm just stubborn enough and pissed off enough and determined enough to see social justice that I’ll hang in there long enough to see our country back on the path of inclusiveness and compassion. I’m taking good care of body and mind in preparation for that day!
