So well and perfectly said, Christine!! The basis of transphobia in Christian sexual distortions may not be obvious, but you clarified the connection so well! More broadly, you have also helped us see how the unhealed unconscious programming we receive in high control environments so often causes us to project our “issues” onto scapegoats. This may be the major social issue of our age underlying the battles over women’s rights, book banning, racism and Critical Race Theory, LGBTQ-phobia, and so much more. Just look at actions of the old white patriarchy in the Tennessee legislature this week for a perfect example of so much unconscious scapegoating. Our society desperately needs to come to consciousness through therapy and healing! Is there a therapist in the house? 😅

Thank you, Chuck! In my admittedly not terribly in-depth research, I didn't find anything giving very explicit explanations of the mechanisms by which transphobia manifests, but once I started to explore some of these topics, it all seemed to fall right together and make sense.

Too true about the TN legislature this week! That was really disturbing.

YES for consciousness-raising ... and it takes a really good therapist to facilitate that, which will probably be my lifelong goal to become one of them! :)

I can’t speak to your therapy sessions, but you are doing a great job of consciousness raising right here, Christine! 😄

So, so courageous, Christine! You've got grit! Few topics are scarier to delve into than those concerning questions as to whether we "should" be ashamed of who we are. A power move I have been relying on of late is reminding myself even if "who" I am is disgusting to others, I am not a "who," in any case. I am not my identity. I'm a what, not a who. (As are we all. 🙂 )

Ooh, interesting reframe! I am something beyond the identity assigned to me either by others -or!- myself.
