Powerful writing ✍️! If only more fellow Christian’s paused to soak in the True Meaning of the Golden Rule and paid close attention to Jesus’ actions- Love, Love, Love, and Love.

Christine, thanks for another informative column. I didn't know the SCOTUS is considering this issue, and of course, we know already what the right-wingnuts on the court plan to do with it--find some tortured logic that allows discrimination against gay people. Thank heaven the Congress and President Biden are cutting them off at the pass on the most important issue with protection of LGBTQ marriage rights. For the record, here's the text of the Fourteenth Amendmen: "No State shall... deny to *any person* within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." No, gay people are not specifically mentioned, just as bald people or tall people or heterosexual people are not. One phrase protects everybody: "any person." Hard to see where that leaves any room at all for an argument to allow discrimination, but I'm sure a SCOTUS representing the sick and hateful minds of the American right will find one. It's disgusting and hurts the heart of anyone who has a conscience.

I've been following along at least to some extent with the SCOTUS cases this year (the podcast Strict Scrutiny, hosted by 3 women, is both funny and informative) and feel alarmed at how much leeway for "religious freedom" these justices are giving! Aka how the separation of church and state seems to be slipping away, and how people will be allowed to discriminate based on religious beliefs. Sad state of affairs.

Christine I hear you. There are so many other ways all of this could be easily handled but big in your face sweeping power moves seems to be on trend.

I think Lorie is being exploited by the lawyer who sought her out but that’s another conversation.

I’m not even sure what kind of Christian she would attract with blatant discriminatory language on her website.

If I shake my head, and bring up my evangelical days, I would think ‘what if she is the one God has called to be put in the path of the gay couple to reach them with her abounding love and ultimately save them from the pit of burning sulphur.’ She needs to get out of the way of the miracle she was raised up for. I guess she is hanging her hat on those salvation assurance verses rather than OT being smited.

I’m angry and my heart hurts.

Yes, the big power moves certainly seem to be trending! Hmm the exploitation by a lawyer sounds like another important nuance to the conversation, for sure. There are SO many other ways this could be handled :(

Me too - angry, exasperated, and sad about the situation.
